Jon, today I have read the first half of Amy Nutt’s book about you, and I am feeling some odd sense of connection. Our one year travels through my husband’s lymphoma treatments are not so dramatic as your experience and your family’s, but we do live in an odd sort of bubble and altered reality where only the present day we are in makes sense. After many drugs and 2 stem cell transplants, he struggles to understand what went on in his brain during a week or two of “medical delirium”, and we wonder over the contrast between a period of revelation and connection to the world and his present sense of being removed. I am the caretaker and parent (we are your age and have children just grown) who holds things together and thinks of my own abandoned art studio as the place where answering processes will one day take place. Art is such path and tool, and even without your intense drive to create, I understand the call. I am heartened and send you and your family good will and blessings.
